The incident occurred in Darien at the Stop & Shop on Old Kings Highway on Thursday, July 13.
According to Sgt. Dan Skoumbros, of the Darien Police, the victim reported that while shopping for groceries, her wallet was stolen.
The victim told police she was approached by a woman who needed help reading a label and also asked if the victim had glasses she could borrow. The victim unzipped her purse to retrieve her glasses and forgot to zip her purse back up, Skoumbros said.
After helping the woman read the label the victim continued to shop and when she went to pay for her groceries at 6:15 p.m. she noticed her wallet was missing.
The victim called to cancel her credit cards and was told that two fraudulent attempts were made at Best Buy in Norwalk. The surveillance footage shows two women and a man working together in the store, Skoumbros said.
The wallet can be seen being stolen when the victim walks away from her cart to shop.
The man stands near the shopping cart while the woman that asked for help earlier takes the wallet from the victim's purse, he added.
The investigation is ongoing.
